A hunter in the US is fighting for his life after a bear he shot landed on top of him.
William McCormick, 28, was hit by the animal as it tumbled down a slope while he was hunting above Carter Lake in Alaska on Saturday.
He was also struck by a rock that had been dislodged, police said.
The soldier was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Alaska's largest city, Anchorage.
Mr McCormick's hunting partner, fellow soldier Zachary Tennyson, 19, was not injured in the incident.
The pair are stationed at Alaska's Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
It is not known what kind of bear was shot, how far it fell or whether it survived.
