Detective Superintendent Richard Dixey reassured the public and those who are planning to travel to the county for the Bank Holiday that there will be an "enhanced police presence" in the area.

Speaking on Sunday, he appealed to anyone who was in the vicinity of the beach between 10pm and midnight on Friday or anyone with any relevant information to contact police.

The beach where the stabbing took place is one of Bournemouth's most popular, according to Visit Dorset, and is located west of the pier.

Superintendent Gavin House said on Saturday that thoughts remain with the loved ones of the woman who "very tragically lost her life".
