Loud bangs and bright flashes have been reported after a knife attacker forced staff at a petrol station in Bristol to hide inside a safe room.
Police say a man has been detained at the scene.
Around half a dozen loud "bangs" could be heard from inside the petrol station, before a man was led away in handcuffs by police.
"We have detained a man in connection with an incident at a petrol station on Hengrove Way this morning. Investigations at the scene continue," Avon and Somerset Police said.
Another person has been taken to hospital after leaving the petrol station.
Avon and Somerset Police said armed officers and a negotiator were at the scene.
The force earlier said that "staff members are uninjured" and had hidden inside a "safe room" at the petrol station.
It said: "One person has left the scene and gone to hospital with injuries not believed life-threatening."
Members of the public were also urged to avoid the area.
Officers were called at 7:36am on Thursday and were at the scene by 7:41am, police added.
The incident has also caused major delays to bus services in the area.
First West of England tweeted that bus services are delayed and services are "terminating and starting their journey from skills centre until further notice".
