A woman has died after travelling to Turkey for gastric band surgery.

Shannon Bowe, from Denny in Falkirk, is understood to have died on Saturday.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said it was supporting Ms Bowe's family but would not confirm if she died before, during or after the weight-loss operation.

Ms Bowe's boyfriend, Ross Stirling, paid tribute on Facebook. He wrote: "Sleep tight my angel, love you forever and always."

Another friend wrote: "You're constantly on my mind. I just don't know how to accept what's happened and words can't describe how I'm feeling."

The added: "My heart is sore for you and everyone that loved you. We have had some of the best memories and you really did make everyone laugh with your ways. You were taken in such an unfair way and I'm so sorry."

Ms Bowe's aunt, Amanda Bowe, also paid tribute to her "beautiful niece", writing: "Life can be so cruel."
