A British and a German man have been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into Bali, leaving one of them possibly facing the death penalty.
Briton Adam Scott, 48, was stopped by customs officials at Ngurah Rai airport after arriving from Bangkok on 24 January.
Dressed in an orange jumpsuit with a balaclava covering his face, he listened as officers read out details to the media on the Indonesian island.
It is alleged the computer analyst was found with a bottle containing 655 Diazepam tablets, also known as Valium, which was judged more than he needed for personal use.
Mr Scott did show a prescription, but just for 42 pills of the opioid.
It is reported that if found guilty he could face a maximum of 10 years in prison or a fine of up to 300,000,000 rupiah (£15,790).
German designer Siegfried Karl Achim Ruckel, 56, was arrested two days later for allegedly possessing 7g of heroin, 0.2g of amphetamine and 15.3g of morphine.
Husni Syaiful, chief of investigation and prosecutions at Bali customs office, told reporters: "By law the possession of those drugs can lead to a minimum of five to a maximum of 20 years in jail, but also the death penalty."
Indonesia has tough drugs laws and has executed traffickers in the past.
In 2017, customs officials caught 42 people breaking the law.
