Cambodia has banned musical horns from being fitted into vehicles - calling their rhythmic tunes "inappropriate" and a risk to the safety of other road users.

The prime minister, Hun Manet, ordered action to be taken against any vehicle whose normal horn had been replaced by a tune-playing one.

He said videos had shown "inappropriate activity committed by some people, especially youth and children, dancing on the roadside to the musical sounds from trucks' horns".

The leader said the dancing had an impact on public order and was a traffic hazard which posed a risk to life.

People have been seen dancing in the middle of roads while trucks drive past sounding their musical horns.

Mr Manet called on the Ministry Of Public Works And Transportation and police officers across the country to immediately ensure the new measure was implemented.
