A heartbroken family have paid tribute to a Merseyside nurse who died after contracting coronavirus.
Liz Glanister, 68, was working as a nurse at Aintree University Hospital when she tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus.
Her death was confirmed on 3 April but now her family have spoken of their loss.
They said: "We would like to thank all of the staff at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital who did an amazing job of looking after Liz in her final days.
"We would also like to thank her NHS family at Aintree University Hospital, whom she loved so much.
"For all of her friends, colleagues and ex-colleagues, ex-patients, fellow nurses she studied with and everyone across the country that have sent their thoughts, condolences and best wishes to us - these mean a lot to the whole family and we are so proud to see just how many people's lives Liz has touched.
"There are so many heroes out there, just like Liz, who are all putting their lives in danger to help save ours, so please help them to be the best they can be and stay inside. Losing a loved one at any time is heartbreaking, but to go through it as we and many other families are is simply beyond words."
Liverpool Walton MP Dan Carden previously paid tribute to Ms Glanister, writing on Twitter: "My thoughts are with the loved ones of Liz Glanister, staff nurse at Aintree Hospital, who sadly died on Friday after contracting COVID-19.
"Our NHS and social care staff are on the frontline of the fight against coronavirus. They must be protected."
