Legoland is planning to open on 4 July and has revealed the measures it is taking - including leaving empty rows on rides and conducting temperature checks.

It is hoping to reopen on the same day as Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures.

The theme parks - all owned by Merlin Entertainment - announced on their websites they are ready to welcome back visitors, but will be following strict rules to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Families visiting the parks are being told to book online tickets in advance, and they will be subject to temperature checks when they arrive.

Visitors will be asked to bring face masks and make contactless payments rather than using cash.

Karen Glassey, Legoland operations director, said: "As you'd expect, a day out or overnight stay at Legoland Windsor will feel a little different to before but everything we are introducing is with your safety, and our team's safety, as our top priority."

Some of the other new measures being introduced include:

  • Reducing the number of guests visiting each day "significantly"
  • Temperature checks at the park entrance
  • Signs with safety messages around the resort
  • Markers for social distancing
  • Hygiene screens at counters
  • Hand sanitiser dispensers and enhanced cleaning
  • Dining areas rearranged
  • Staff members wearing PPE
  • Focus on 'grab and go' food options

Most rides and attractions are expected to be open, but some will be temporarily closed.

Legoland's Resort and Castle hotels are also set to open on 4 July.
