A possible "cluster" of coronavirus cases is being looked into in Glasgow, the Scottish first minister has revealed.

Some 14 new cases of coronavirus were reported in the city in the last 24 hours, among a total of 22 across Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon said at her daily press conference.

She added that it is thought the cluster of COVID-19 cases are linked to a particular location, and that an assessment group is investigating the outbreak.

"I can't stand here right now and tell you that there is no risk of onward spread, if I was satisfied about that it wouldn't be a potential cluster under investigation," Ms Sturgeon added.

"We will put more information into the public domain as soon as we can if there is an issue that is genuinely causing concern and needing to be investigated."

Glasgow City Council was unable to comment on the potential cases.

Daily cases in Scotland have not exceeded 30 since 4 June, and the country frequently records single-figure numbers of positive tests.

More on Covid-19

There have been previous clusters in Scotland - in North Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway. People in those areas were asked to self-isolate for two weeks if they had come into contact with anyone who had tested positive for the virus.

Localised outbreaks in England have been dealt with by imposing stricter measures, with Leicester becoming the first area to go back in to a full lockdown over its surge in cases.

Luton, Oldham and Blackburn with Darwen have also seen localised rises in coronavirus cases and were designated as "areas of intervention" by Public Health England, and more testing was introduced.

Ms Sturgeon is reviewing Scotland's lockdown measures this week, but warned her government will take a "cautious" approach to it.

She is expected to reveal more details on school openings in Scotland later this week.
