COVID-19: UK records 335 more coronavirus-related deaths and 109,133 new cases, daily figures show

The number of new cases was nearly 24% lower over the last seven days compared to the week before.

The UK has recorded 335 coronavirus-related deaths in the latest 24-hour period, according to government data.

It compared to 398 deaths recorded on Wednesday and brings the total number of deaths to 151,342.

However, separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 174,233 deaths registered in the UK where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The data also shows 109,133 more COVID cases were reported in the latest 24-hour period.

The number of new cases was down from 129,587 on Wednesday and nearly 24% lower over the last seven days compared to the week before.

Deaths in the last seven days were up 67% compared to a week earlier.

Vaccine rollout

A total of 52,031,355 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine were delivered in the UK by 12 January, the latest figures show.

This is a rise of 19,520 on the previous day.

Some 47,804,588 second doses have been delivered, an increase of 30,340.

A combined total of 36,079,875 booster and third doses have been given, a day-on-day rise of 126,632.
