Declan Connell: Man who died after M9 motorway police chase named

Police Scotland says that prior to the crash on Sunday morning, the white Vauxhall Corsa had been involved in a police pursuit.

A man who died after his car came off a motorway and crashed down an embankment following a police chase has been named.

Declan Connell, 27, was driving a white Vauxhall Corsa southbound on the M9 when the incident happened between junctions 8 and 9 in the Stirling area at around 11.50am on Sunday.

Emergency services attended but Mr Connell, from Falkirk, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has asked for privacy.

Two male passengers in the car, aged 19 and 20, were taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital to be checked over.

Police Scotland said prior to the crash, the car had been involved in a police pursuit.

The circumstances surrounding the collision have been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC).

The road was fully reopened around 2.40pm on Monday.

Chief Inspector Mark Patterson said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

"We are appealing for any witnesses, particularly motorists with dashcam footage, to please get in touch."
