A council has apologised for missed bin collections amid the rollout of a new recycling scheme.

Denbighshire County Council has recently introduced a new sorting system for residents' recycling.

Since the start of the month, non-recyclable waste has been collected every four weeks for households who are part of the council's wheelie bin service.

A spokesperson for Denbighshire County Council said residents' efforts had "greatly improved the quality of the recycling materials collected".

"While the majority of recycling and residual waste collections have been completed as planned across the county, we accept that a large number of residents have not had a collection and that this has caused difficulties for them," they added.

A resident on Facebook said their black bin had not been emptied in five weeks, describing it as a "health hazard".

Another said their bins had not been collected since 29 May, while one said their bins were "starting to stink".

The council spokesperson confirmed the local authority has introduced a series of temporary measures to tackle the problem.

The council is "closely monitoring the situation" and says it is doing what it can to address the issue.

"We appreciate your patience, but also recognise your frustrations and apologise for the impact this has had on you," the spokesperson added.

"We expect that the difficulties will ease as the temporary measures set out above take effect and the new service is embedded."
