Donald Trump's doctor has released a statement saying that the Republican presidential candidate is in very good condition.

Harold N Bornstein MD says that Mr Trump has been under his care since 6 November 1980.

In his statement, he says the tycoon has been in hospital only once, when he had an appendectomy at the age of 11.

He says Mr Trump weighs 236 pounds and is six feet three inches tall, which the candidate earlier admitted made him overweight for his height.

He told US television's Dr Oz that he would like to lose 15lbs and went on to say anyone running for president has an "obligation to be healthy" because the job requires it.

Amid a series of medical statistics, Dr Bornstein reveals that Mr Trump's blood pressure is 116/70, and that his liver function and thyroid function tests are "within the normal range".

But while Dr Bornstein says there is "no family history of premature cardiac or neoplastic disease," he says that Mr Trump takes a statin to lower cholesterol and a low dose aspirin.

Trump's health report: The full check-up

The release of the statement comes amid growing interest in the candidates' health after his rival Hillary Clinton was seen stumbling as she left a 9/11 memorial.

Mrs Clinton's team revealed afterwards that their candidate has been suffering from non-contagious pneumonia.

The Democratic nominee has taken three days off to recover and returned to the campaign trail on Thursday.

Mrs Clinton told reporters on her campaign plane she was "doing great" as she headed to her first event after returning to the trail in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Trump wants 'Americanism' not 'Globalism'

Mr Trump had avoided referring to Mrs Clinton's medical problems but on Wednesday night made a veiled attack on her health.

He told a large rally in Canton, Ohio: "I don't know folks. You think Hillary would be able to stand up here for an hour and do this? I don't know, I don't know. I don't think so, I don't think so."

"Now we have one (politician, referring to Clinton) left, now we have one left. And in all fairness she's lying in bed, getting better and we want her better, we want her back on the trail, right? We want her back on the trail."

Speaking to the Economic Club of New York on Thursday afternoon, Mr Trump promised to set a goal of 4% annual economic growth if he is elected President and to cut government spending on non-defence and non-safety areas by 1% a year, with a view to saving $1tr (£770bn) over a decade.

He also said he would also propose a $4.4tr (£3.4tr) tax cut to boost the economy, which would be funded from his growth projections.

His administration would scale back regulation, he told those at the club, including that controlling waterways, food safety and carbon pollution. The presidential nominee has previously said he does not believe in climate change science.

It came as European Parliament President described the Republican nominee as a problem "for the whole world".

Hillary Clinton back and 'feeling great'

Martin Schulz told German magazine Der Spiegel: "If a man sits in the White House who flirts with having no idea and labels expertise as elitist baloney, a critical point is reached."

This, he added, would mean "an apparently irresponsible man" was in a position requiring the highest sense of responsibility.
