He won two trophies in his two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford, but how well did Jose Mourinho stack up against his predecessors as Manchester United manager?
Win rate:
Mourinho's win rate was 58.33%.
That makes him better than two other sacked Man Utd managers, Louis Van Gaal, who had 52.43% and David Moyes who had 52.94%.
But Sir Alex Ferguson, who left the club on a high, had a win rate of 59.67%.
Points:
Man Utd won 26 points in their first 17 league games this season under Mourinho.
It was the club's worst points haul in the top-flight at this stage since 1990-91, when they also had 26 points.
Goal difference:
There is an 83 goal difference between Manchester City and Manchester United in 93 Premier League games since Mourinho and Pep Guardiola were appointed.
City have scored 234 goals in that time, with United on 151.
Average goals per game:
Although Moyes had a worse win rate than Mourinho, Man Utd averaged only 1.62 goals per game in the Premier League under the Portuguese manager compared to Moyes' 1.65.
Goals conceded:
This season Man Utd have conceded 29 goals, while 19th-placed Huddersfield Town have let in 28 goals so far in 2018-2019.
Only Fulham, Cardiff, Burnley and Southampton have conceded more than the Red Devils under Mourinho.
Trophies won:
Mourinho won two trophies during his two-and-a-half year tenure at Old Trafford - the League Cup and the Europa League both in 2017.
By contrast, Ferguson won 28 titles during his career at Utd.
Mourinho quotes:
The Portuguese manager was known for his feisty responses in news conferences.
Here are a selection of his most memorable quotes:
After a series of player injuries...
He liked to credit the "gods of football" for allowing the opposing team to win...
Mourinho's rivalry with Man City was sometimes too much for him...
He wasn't always the best salesman for the team...
But he was good at praising himself...
And he didn't mince his words when speaking about the All or Nothing documentary which painted him in not such a glowing light...
