Switzerland wins Eurovision 2024

Switzerland's Nemo has won this year's Eurovision song contest.

The singer pipped Croatia to the top spot with 591 points.

They are the the first non-binary singer to win the contest - wowing viewers with their performance of The Code, a drum-and-bass, opera, rap and rock tune about a journey of self-discovery as a non-binary person.

Accepting the iconic glass microphone trophy, Nemo said: "I want to say thank you so much, I hope this contest can live up to its promise and continue to stand for peace and dignity for every person in this world".

Switzerland's win ends a contest that has shrouded in controversy due to protests over the Gaza war and the disqualification of Dutch contestant Joost Klein hours before the grand final.

Croatia takes the lead with 547 points

Cheers erupt in the arena as Croatia's public vote results push them into first place with 547 points.

France and Switzerland's results still need to be announced.

Switzerland's Nemo needs 183 points to win...

UK gets 0 votes in public vote

Ouch - it's a disappointing night for Olly Alexander as the UK receives zero votes from the public vote.

Israel receives 323 points - flinging it to the top of the rankings with several countries to go.

It's unlikely to stay there though, with favourites Switzerland, Ireland, France and Croatia likely to get big scores too.

Public votes about to be announced

As host Petra Mede points out - the most important part of the vote is yet to come.

All 25 acts will soon see how their performances have fared among the voting public.

Points announcements will begin with the country with the least votes - currently Estonia - and move upwards.
