A family has paid tribute to a "bright star" after a 27-year-old man was found dead at a property in Caerphilly.

Police were called to a property in Cefn Ilan Road, Abertriwdr, at around 9.45am on Sunday after a man was found "unresponsive".

Paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed the man, since named as Benjamin Lloyd, had died.

Mr Lloyd's family have described him as "one of life's true gentlemen".

"Ben was so happy and positive all the time, he always walked with a spring in his step. A kind, hardworking and generous man who had a lot of friends," they said in a statement.

"You would struggle to find anyone who had a bad word to say about Ben.

"He leaves behind a very large number of family and friends who will feel his absence forever.

His family added that Mr Lloyd was "always joking around and making light of every situation".

"He was such a bright star in this world and we are sure he will shine just as bright in the next."

Gwent Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed an altercation between two men on White Street, near the library, between 8pm and 10pm on Saturday 1 April to get in touch.

A 28-year-old man from the Caerphilly area has been charged with manslaughter. He was due to appear before Newport Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
