Fire-ravaged Premier Inn hotel in Bristol collapses onto road

Dramatic footage shows the moment a massive fire caused part of a multi-storey hotel to collapse onto a road.

The front of the Premier Inn fell onto the A4108 in Cribbs Causeway in Bristol.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at about 1.15pm on Wednesday.

A major incident was declared four hours later and firefighters worked through the night to bring the blaze under control.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service tweeted footage of crews tackling the fire-ravaged building.

It showed the top third of the structure come crashing down to the ground near a fire engine at the scene.

Fire officer Justin Hobbs said: "This is a significant incident, a significant fire. Obviously it is a hotel. It is a large building and the majority of the building has been affected by the fire."

He said "because the building has started to collapse" crews were fighting the blaze from outside, applying water from turntable ladders.

South Western Ambulance Service said no one was injured in the fire..

The road remains shut and residents have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed and to avoid the area.

A Premier Inn spokeswoman told Sky News: "Our hotel at Bristol Cribbs Causeway has suffered significant damage.

"We express our thanks to the emergency services for their efforts in tackling the blaze, and we will of course continue to provide them with assistance as necessary.

"Our teams have been working hard to ensure all guests staying at Cribbs Causeway yesterday have been fully supported to make other arrangements, including being transferred to our other hotels in Bristol.

"Guests who are booked for future stays are advised to call our guest relations team."
