Why you can trust Sky News

The death of George Floyd - an unarmed black man - in police custody has sent shockwaves across the world and led to the resurgence of Black Lives Matter anti-racism protests.

Mr Floyd was filmed lying face down on a Minneapolis street, gasping for air, as a white police officer knelt on his neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds while arresting him for allegedly using a counterfeit $20 note in a shop.

The 46-year-old father has become the cornerstone of a movement that has sparked mass demonstrations in the US - and around the world - demanding racial equality and justice, and an end to discrimination.

It has also seen an increase in calls to remove the legacy of racism and colonialism from institutions, including monuments to controversial historical figures.

Sky News is holding a special programme on Tuesday 16 June at 8pm to discuss the issues that have been reignited by the protests, examining institutional racism and how we fix it.

We'll be joined by leading figures from across the black community - historians, activists, and leaders in business and culture.
