George Floyd death: Man arrested after driving car into protesters and shooting demonstrator

A man has been arrested after driving his car into a crowd of protesters in Seattle before shooting a demonstrator who confronted him.聽

Footage from the scene shows the car appearing to accelerate towards the crowd before hitting a barricade, as people can be heard screaming "Oh God! Oh God! No! No!".

Protesters surround the car as it comes to a stop and a man on the driver's side falls to the ground after what sounds like a gunshot.

The driver later gets out of the car and appears to be brandishing a gun.

He then heads into a crowd of people.

The victim is a 27-year-old black man who is in a stable condition in hospital, according to Seattle firefighters and eyewitness video.

Other images from the scene showed protesters forming a protective ring around the victim before he was helped up by medics.

Police were heard asking the crowd to bring him in for treatment.

He was seen walking away - supported by the medics - and being taken into an ambulance.

The suspect is in custody and a gun has been recovered.

Police do not believe there were any other victims.

Protests in the US over the weekend were mostly peaceful, as many continued to demonstrate over the death of George Floyd.

Mr Floyd was an unarmed black man who was killed after a police officer in Minneapolis knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
