A Good Samaritan has been left "extremely upset and shaken" after being robbed at knifepoint by a man he went to help.

The robbery happened on a footpath in Edinburgh between 5.50pm and 6pm on Monday.

Police Scotland said the male victim was walking between The Gyle Shopping Centre and Gogarloch Syke when he spotted a man lying on the ground.

On going to his aid, the man on the ground produced a knife and demanded money. The robber then took off into a wooded area towards Gogarloch Syke with a four-figure sum of cash.

Detective Constable Peter Lyons said: "Fortunately no one was injured but the man who was robbed was left extremely upset and shaken by what happened.

"The area was likely busy with dog walkers and pedestrians at the time and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened."
