Google has given more details of its new gaming platform Stadia, including naming a November release date.

The service works through the company's Chrome browser, rather a console.

Players will only need a screen and an internet connection - meaning it can work on traditional PCs, tablets and the company's Google Pixel phones - but not other Android handsets.

All of the computation is done in the cloud.

Google announced its move into gaming in March and says the goal is to make games available at high resolution and 60 frames per second, with surround sound.

The specs for the Stadia match those of the top consoles, although there are very few games which support such high-quality graphics.

The system is available now for pre-order in the UK for £119 and will come out in November.

The box includes the Stadia controller and Google Chromecast Ultra, the device that plugs into the TV's HDMI port to let users stream from mobile devices and laptops.

The controller has a button that lets users share gameplay direct to YouTube, another allows people to ask Google Assistant questions about the game.

It will be available in 14 countries at launch, including the US, Canada, UK, France and Germany.

Games available Doom Eternal, The Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy XV, NBA 2K and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Google says the resolution ranges from 720p to 4K depending on network speed.

Subscription will cost £8.99 a month for Stadia Pro, while a free subscription known as Stadia Base will be available next year.
