MPs have once again rejected a series of alternative Brexit plans as four options failed to get a majority in the Commons.

A proposal from Tory grandee Ken Clarke for a customs union arrangement with the EU was rejected by only three votes, while a demand for a second referendum was defeated by 12 and a Norway-style deal beaten by 21.

A fourth option, which called for Article 50 to be revoked if a deal could not be agreed and MPs rejected leaving without a deal, went down by 191 votes to 292.
