Police have discovered what are thought to be human remains following a fire near a football club in Suffolk.

Officers were called to a portable building on land adjoining Leiston FC at 3.37pm on Wednesday afternoon - and the fire had broken out in the early hours of the morning.

Suffolk Constabulary said: "What are thought to be human remains have been discovered at the scene.

"A police scene remains in place in Victory Road while investigations into the circumstances of what has happened continue."

A man who answered the phone at Leiston Town Athletic Association, but did not give his name, said the building had fallen into disrepair and had not been used for months.

"The windows have been knocked out some time ago due to vandalism," he said.

"It wasn't used for anything in particular, just for dumping stuff there."
