Irish Traveller 'discriminated against by Cardiff pub which refused to host Christening'

An Irish Traveller has received a settlement after he was allegedly discriminated against by a pub which refused to host his daughter's Christening.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, claimed The Three Horseshoes, in the Whitchurch area of Cardiff, rejected his request to hold the event because of his background.
The pub agreed to settle after he launched a claim for direct discrimination on the grounds of his race, according to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), which supported the case.
It said the venue had also committed to undertake equality and diversity training.
However, the settlement did not contain an admission of liability on the part of The Three Horseshoes.

Baroness Kishwer Falkner, chair of the EHRC, said every business should be aware of its responsibilities "to protect their customers and staff from discrimination based on a protected characteristic".
"I am pleased that our efforts have resulted in a positive resolution for this claimant, shedding light on an issue still experienced by too many people in Britain, and helping service providers understand discrimination and how they can prevent it," she added.
In a statement to the BBC, The Three Horseshoes said the claim related to a former employee of the pub and not the owner or any current member of staff.
Sky News has asked the pub to comment.
