Debenhams have named the 22 stores that are expected to be shut after Christmas in the first wave of closures over a three-year period.

The strategy, which will see almost a third of its 166 sites go, places thousands of jobs at risk.

The British retailer said 1,200 people were employed at the first 22 stores through it hoped to redeploy some staff.
