Fighting continued in Israel as the police and army clashed with Hamas militants that remained at large.

The Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip wrought destruction on the densely populated area.

According to the Israeli Defence Force (IDF), at least 426 Hamas targets were hit by the Sunday morning, including a compound belonging to the head of the group's intelligence department.

Buildings in Gaza were razed to the ground, including Al-Amin Muhammad Mosque.

The death toll on both sides continued to rise.
