'Israel will continue fighting with or without US help,' retired IDF colonel says

Israel will continue to fight Iran with or without US help, a retired Israel Defence Forces colonel says.

Miri Eisin told Breakfast presenter Wilfred Frost that the IDF had achieved air dominance over Tehran - repeating claims heard earlier this week.

"Since Friday, we have achieved air superiority," she said.

"We can send our resources in and we can target the Iranian Revolutionary Guard targets, the missile sites, the nuclear sites, the different sites that are military installations throughout all of Iran."

She added: "We'll continue to attack the nuclear sites, the missile sites, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and those installations as we've been doing, even if the Americans do not join in."

Trump does not want to go to war with Iran, former national security chief says

Donald Trump does not want to go to war with Iran and has left the door open for Tehran to resume negotiations, a former chief of staff of the US National Security Council has told Sky News.

Speaking on The World With Yalda Hakim, Fred Fleitz said the US president was "going to make Iran a pretty good deal for a peaceful nuclear programme".

But he said if Iran did not give up its enrichment programme then "the clock is running out" and Trump would send US bombers to drop bunker-buster bombs on its Fordow nuclear site.

"Trump is a man of his word," he said. "He gave the Iranians 60 days. And if they don't agree soon on this, Trump has concluded that an Iranian nuclear weapon will be here soon.

"And it is not just a threat to Israel. It is a threat to the United States. And that's why I think there's a good chance Trump will drop bunker-buster bombs on the Fordow facility."

He said Iran would have to agree to give up the site and agree to stop enriching uranium: "If it wants a peaceful nuclear programme, the US will help it build one."

Analysis: Three possible scenarios moving forward for Israel-Iran conflict

The coming days, weeks and months of the Israel-Iran conflict hinges around the question of American involvement, our Middle East correspondent Ali Bunkall reports from Jerusalem.

Watch his full breakdown of three possible scenarios below:

British-Iranians struggling to contact friends and family

By Lisa Holland, communities correspondent, and Olive Enokido-Lineham, specialist producer

With Iran now in the middle of a near-total internet blackout, communication is difficult.

But we've managed to piece together a picture of a country gripped by fear and panic, where relatives are struggling to contact loved ones.

Amir Javadzadeh and Attieh Fard are among the British-Iranians trying to get through to friends and family in Iran.

Hour by hour, it's getting harder and harder.

Amir finally makes contact with a friend in the eastern city of Mashhad.

We are calling the friend "Ali" to protect his identity.

Ali paints a worrying picture of people struggling to get hold of basics like bread and fuel... Read more

Watch: Chaos inside Israeli hospital after Iranian strike

Watch the moment the Soroka Hospital in southern Israel was hit by an Iranian missiles this morning.

At least 40 people have been injured, and two others seriously wounded.

Trump approves Iran attack plan but waiting to give final order, US media reports

Donald Trump has approved attack plans for Iran but withheld the final order, according to a new report.

The Wall Street Journal reports Trump told senior aids he was holding off to see if Tehran would abandon its nuclear programme first.

It cited people familiar with the deliberations.

US involvement could be vital for Israeli goals to end the Iranian nuclear programme.

Washington's "bunker buster" bombs would be one of the only ways Israel could destroy some of the more defended targets.

The Fordow nuclear site, for example, is embedded in the side of a mountain, deep underground, out of reach of all but the most powerful bombs.

Watch: Sky News reports from Israeli hospital after Iranian strike

Our correspondent Cordelia Lynch is at the Soroka Hospital in southern Israel after it was hit by Iranian missiles this morning.

She says she saw smoke rising as she arrived.

"We heard eyewitness accounts of people hearing a loud boom as this medical centre was struck," she says.

"We've been seeing patients being wheeled out here, we've seen others with minor injuries, but it's unclear when exactly they incurred those."

The hospital had been closed to any new patients, with only life-threatening cases being admitted in recent days.

The new 'rhythm' to Israeli life

Lynch also reflects on her time in Israel during the fighting with Iran.

"One of the things you're struck by is the rhythm of life that people have become accustomed to," she says.

"When those sirens blare out, they head down to their shelters.

"They have come to expect this kind of choreography and I think, yes, there is a degree of fear, of concern, but you also hear a sort of confidence in people as well."

Five seriously injured in Tel Aviv

At least five people have been seriously in Tel Aviv, the Israeli emergency service says.

Israeli air defences were penetrated overnight and trails of missiles and interception efforts were visible in the skies over the central Israeli city this morning as explosions were heard.

The emergency services said five people had been seriously injured in the attack, with dozens of others hurt in three other locations. In south Tel Aviv, people are trapped in a building, it said.

In pictures: Iron Dome penetrated over central Israel

Here are some of the latest pictures from Ramat Gan, in Israel.

The Iron Dome was penetrated over central parts of the country.

Ramat Gan, just east of Tel Aviv, was one of the areas hit by Iranian attacks overnight, leading to extensive damage.

Listen: If Trump strikes Iran, what will Starmer do?

Listen to the latest episode of Politics At Sam And Anne's, where they ask what Sir Keir Starmer will do if Donald Trump wades into the Middle East.

Yesterday, the US president said he was weighing up strikes on Tehran.

Starmer has so far walked a tightrope with Trump, keeping him on side while appealing to other world leaders.

But possible strikes on Iran represent another hurdle for the Labour leader to clear.

On this episode, our deputy political editor Sam Coates and Politico's Anne McElvoy discuss what advice Starmer is getting over potential British involvement in the conflict.

We also hear, as we reported at 7.03, on David Lammy's trip to Geneva tomorrow where he'll be meeting his Iranian counterpart.
