Jim Carrey's latest painting has caused a stir on social media, with the star accused of being both a "Christaphobe" and sexist.

The canvas in question seems to portray White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in a "monstrous" caricature.

Posted on Carrey's Twitter page, the caption reads: "This is the portrait of a so-called Christian whose only purpose in life is to lie for the wicked. Monstrous!"

And while some took issue with the art itself, accusing it of being sexist, others were more offended with Carrey's choice of words.

One critic was Ms Huckabee Sanders' father, the former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who called the actor a "pathetic BULLY, sexist, hater, bigot & Christaphobe".

Mr Huckabee asked: "What would be hypocritical Hollywood reaction if he called someone a 'so-called Muslim' or 'so-called Jew?"

Conservative commentator Candace Owens described Carrey's actions as "ugly" and "not Christian-like whatsoever", while others simply thought the actor "misunderstood the definition of Christian".
