King Charles gives speech to both houses of Italy's parliament

The King had a private meeting with Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni earlier on Wednesday and saw a performance of Shakespeare's Othello.

King Charles is giving a speech to both houses of Italy's parliament during his state visit to the country.

In making the speech, he becomes the first British monarch to address both houses of Italy's parliament.

The King, who is celebrating his 20th wedding anniversary, had a private meeting with Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni earlier on Wednesday and saw a performance of Shakespeare's Othello.

Charles was given a red carpet welcome with a guard of honour when he arrived at the Villa Doria Pamphili at the start of the third day of the royal couple's four-day tour of Rome and the city of Ravenna.

He and Ms Meloni appeared relaxed as they posed for photographers.

Queen Camilla was greeted by small children waving Union flags as she visited the Alessandro Manzoni school in Rome.

She met students and teachers, went to an English lesson with the children, and awarded diplomas to competition winners.

The King and Queen will be guests of honour at a state banquet in the Italian capital this evening, where they'll likely rub shoulders with leading figures from Italian life.

Charles and Camilla married in a civil ceremony in Windsor on 9 April 2005 following a romance that began when they were in their early 20s.
