Les Dennis has denied spray-painting his own name in various locations around Norwich.

The actor and comedian's moniker has appeared on walls and a roadside in the city, prompting speculation about its creator.

Fishergate and St Benedict's Street were identified as two of the locations by passers-by on Twitter.

Journalist Rob Setchell tweeted two pictures of the "bizarre graffiti tributes", dubbing it a "SurreaLesm movement".

Dennis, who played Michael Rodwell in Coronation Street, replied simply: "It wasn't me."

The 65-year-old star has also fronted Family Fortunes and was married to Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden between 1995 and 2003.

The graffiti has amused people on Twitter, with Dan Gasser commenting: "Who'd of thought Les Dennis would reinvent himself as the new Banksy."

A Twitter account called My name is Searle described the graffiti as "pure Partridge".

And Rachel Doyle was inspired to compose a poem, writing: "Usually graffiti though, can be a proper menace, but I think it's rather cool, when it just says Les Dennis."
