Four days of bus strikes in London have been suspended.聽

Bus drivers employed by Arriva on north and east London bus routes were set to strike on 20, 21, 27 and 28 June.

But the walkout has been suspended while drivers vote on an improved pay offer.

The strikes by 1,700 driver who are Unite union members would have affected about 46 routes.

The new offer came after extended pay talks between Arriva and Unite on Monday.

Unite regional officer Steve Stockwell said: "From the outset Unite has been clear that Arriva could and should make an improved offer and that has proved to be the case.

"It is now up to our members to decide if the offer is sufficient to meet their expectations."

If the pay offer is rejected then Unite will announce fresh industrial action.

The drivers had previously rejected a 7% pay increase.

The drivers currently start on pay rates of £13.65 an hour, which they said they cannot afford to live on in London.
