Merseyside Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the murder of Lewis Dunne, a teenager from Liverpool.
The 16-year-old died from a single gunshot to the back in Eldonian Village on Sunday evening.
Detectives are continuing to appeal for more information to piece together Lewis' final moments, and are questioning their suspect.
They are particularly interested to hear from anyone who could provide details of the victim's whereabouts between 10.15pm and 11.10pm on Sunday, when he had left his home to go to a nearby shop.
Chief Inspector Tom Keaton added: "My message is clear to the offenders: we are relentless in our pursuit of those who use firearms on our streets, and we are determined to find those who took away the life of a 16-year-old boy who had so much to look forward to."
In recent days, officers have completed a search of a nearby canal - recovering several items including mobile phones and jackets.
There had been speculation that a fight had been arranged on Sunday evening involving groups on quad bikes - but Mr Keaton said his investigators had not been able to find any information to confirm this.
He added: "Someone somewhere knows who did this and once again I would appeal to them to come forward for the sake of Lewis' family. They are struggling to come to terms with their loss and they need answers."
High visibility patrols have been stepped up on Merseyside to reassure the public.
