A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a woman was found dead in Swansea.

The body of Leanne Williams, 47, was found at a property in the city's Townhill area on Thursday 27 February.

Matthew Battenbough, 33, appeared at Swansea Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning.

Battenbough, who wore a grey tracksuit, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth during the short hearing.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Swansea Crown Court on Thursday.

South Wales Police said officers found Ms Williams at her home in Gomer Road at around 2pm last Thursday.

A post-mortem was carried out and identified what the force described as "significant injuries".

Detective Superintendent Mark O'Shea said the news was "devastating for her family" and had come as a "shock to the local community".

He has issued an appeal to the public as detectives are "still piecing together [Ms Williams's] last known movements".

Anyone who lives on or travelled through Gomer Road, or the surrounding areas, between 6pm on Monday 24 February and 2.20pm on Thursday 27 February is asked to check for potentially relevant CCTV or dashcam footage.

DSU O'Shea added that it did not matter to officers "how insignificant" the information may seem.

"We particularly want to hear from people who knew Leanne and who have not yet spoken with officers," he said.
