A man has been killed and a police officer dragged along a road after an attempt to stop a car in Castleblaney, Ireland.
The officer tried to flag down a silver Audi A6 close to the town's Garda station at 11.30pm on Tuesday.
But the car did not stop and instead dragged him 500m (1,600ft) along the road before crashing into a Skoda Octavia in the town's main street.
The driver of the Skoda was killed. He is believed to be a man in his 40s and died instantly.
The police officer is believed to have suffered head, facial and leg injuries. He was being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda.
Local media reported that the man driving the Audi had gone into the Garda station before the incident took place, and that he was recognised as a person from Northern Ireland who authorities wanted to speak to.
He was arrested at the scene.
Main Street was closed on Wednesday morning while an investigation was underway.
