Man who died in West Lothian car crash named as Gareth Hempseed

The incident, involving an Audi S1, happened in Bridgend on Monday evening. Passenger Gareth Hempseed died, while the driver of the car was released from hospital after treatment.

A 20-year-old man who died in a car crash in West Lothian has been named by police.

Gareth Hempseed, from Dunfermline in Fife, was a passenger in a black Audi S1 that crashed on Auldhill Road in Bridgend near Linlithgow at around 8.35pm on Monday.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. He has since been released.

Sergeant Dave Waddell said: "Our thoughts remain with Gareth's family and friends at what is a very difficult time for them."

In a previous appeal, Police Scotland urged motorists who were in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch if they had any information or dashcam footage.
