Amid fears that he was part of a wider jihadist network, authorities worldwide are looking for connections in Libya, Turkey and Germany after establishing he travelled through all three countries in the seven days before the attack.

Police in Manchester have raided properties across the city and seized CCTV footage as they try to establish what he was doing in the crucial final hours before he murdered 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert.

The possibility that Abedi used Libya as a base to travel to Syria for terror training with Islamic State has also been raised by the French interior minister Gerard Collomb.

Here's what we know about his movements before the bombing. This story will be updated as new information comes to light.

Associates of Abedi in Manchester have said he had been on a "three-week" trip to Libya before the bombing, suggesting he might have travelled to Tripoli sometime between the end of April and early May.

According to several sources, his parents were so worried about his radicalisation in Britain that they confiscated his passport.

But Abedi apparently persuaded them to return it by claiming he intended to make Umrah, a pilgrimage to Mecca.

Family friend Lobna Elghriani told The Times his parents were "very upset" to learn he had instead returned to Manchester.

But Abedi apparently managed to calm their fears by promising he would fly on to Saudi Arabia in a phone call the weekend before the attack.

Libyan authorities reportedly claim Abedi's brother Hashem knew about the Manchester attack in advance and told them that Salman left Tripoli to return to the UK on 17 May.

Abedi flew from from Istanbul to Dusseldorf and then on to Manchester on 18 May.

He only passed through the German airport and was not on any watch list for suspected extremists, according to a report in Germany's Focus magazine.

He is also known to have flown to the UK from Frankfurt in 2015. German counterterrorism experts are reportedly checking whether he might have been in contact with any radical Islamists in the North Rhine-Westphalia region.

Police believe they have in Manchester City Centre three days before the bombing.

He bought a rucksack with blue markings, which appear to match remnants seen in leaked photos of the Manchester Arena crime scene.

The Arndale pictures show a man dressed in dark clothing, wearing a hoodie, baseball cap and distinctive white trainers.

It is believed Abedi was wearing similar clothes at the time of the attack.

Police believe Abedi in Manchester city centre's Granby Row as he made final preparations for the attack on Monday.

The Granby House complex - close to Manchester's Piccadilly station - was raided on Wednesday, and witnesses said investigators told them the bomber had been in the area at around 7pm.

There has been speculation that the rental property was used to mix chemicals used in the bomb, while the device itself was assembled elsewhere.
