Meghan Markle joins Prince Harry at Buckingham Palace for festive lunch with Queen

The Queen has hosted Prince Harry and his fiance Meghan Markle at Buckingham Palace for the Royal Family's annual Christmas lunch.

The event traditionally takes place each year before the Queen leaves for her private Sandringham estate to spend the rest of the holidays.

The Suits actress, 36, has already been confirmed as part of the Royal party at Sandringham for Christmas.

Harry, 33, was pictured driving a Land Rover Discovery as he arrived at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, appearing relaxed with Meghan as they passed waiting photographers.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, also arrived for the lunch.

Their children were accompanied by their nanny in the back seat of their car.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall followed in another car and the Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and their daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor arrived in another vehicle.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, as well as the Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra, were also in attendance.

The lunch comes after Harry and Meghan got engaged last month, with the pair later their first official events together in Nottingham.

The couple are due to get married on 19 May at Windsor Castle's St George's Chapel.

Meghan: Harry 'got on one knee'

Speaking after announcing the engagement, they revealed Harry popped the question while cooking a chicken dinner at Kensington Palace.

In their first interview, Meghan said: "(It was) just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.

"As a matter of fact I could barely let you finish proposing, I said - 'can I say yes now'?"

While posing for photos after their announcement, Harry said he knew the American actress was the "the one" the first time they met.
