Metropolitan Police firearms officer arrested on suspicion of rape

A firearms officer from the Metropolitan Police has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

The officer, an inspector in the Met's Specialist Firearms Command, was arrested on 24 June on suspicion of rape and other offences.

"He was bailed to return in mid-September, pending further enquiries," the force said in a statement.

The officer has been suspended from duty.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), the force added.
