A seven-year-old boy has been described as a "credit to his family" after dialling 999 when his mother collapsed at home.

Ronnie-Lee Gray's quick-thinking actions meant paramedics could arrive at their home in Tilbury in Essex swiftly after his mother Becky Gray fell ill.

Ms Gray was recovering from surgery and had low-blood pressure, and was told by staff in accident and emergency: "Your son is a very clever boy."

Essex Police arranged for Ronnie-Lee to visit his local station as a thank you, where he met officers, who said he showed "maturity far beyond his years".

Thurrock engagement sergeant, Amelia Moore, said: "Ronnie showed maturity far beyond his years in helping his mum that day and clearly avoided a potentially worse outcome.

"We were delighted to host Ronnie, he was a real pleasure and a credit to his family."

Ms Gray said she was "so proud" of her son's quick thinking, adding: "I am extremely proud of my son, and I'm very pleased he's getting this recognition for what he did.

"There's not a lot of people of that age who would know to do that and to act in the way he did.

"For him to be able to ring up 999 and give his full details and stay calm, it's amazing."
