Three people have been killed and three were injured after attacks in Nottingham that police believe are linked.

Information is still emerging but here's what we know so far.

How did the attacks unfold?

Two students were found fatally stabbed in the street in Ilkeston Road just after 4am on Tuesday.

Officers were then called to Milton Street, just over a mile away in the city centre, where a van tried to run over three people.

"The van was then stopped on Maple Street where a man was tasered by police and taken into custody," said Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Kate Meynell.

A man was also found dead nearby Magdala Road by a member of the public, added the police chief.

"At the moment, we believe that the suspect has stolen this man's vehicle and driven it to Milton Street, where he is then driven at members of the public," the police chief said.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Who are the victims?

The University of Nottingham said two of the three people killed were students at the university.

Nineteen-year-old Grace Kumar and fellow student Barnaby Webber, also 19, were stabbed to death in the early hours of Tuesday.

The man found dead from knife injuries in Magdala Road has been named as Ian Coates - a school caretaker from Nottingham. His family say he was in his 60s.

Police believe the suspect stole Mr Coates's vehicle before using it to drive at people on Milton Street.

The three people who were injured in the van incident include one who's in a critical condition.

The other two people are believed to have minor injuries.

Officers are still investigating the attacker's motive. Terror police are assisting but police are not looking for anyone else.

The chief constable said: "We are keeping an open mind as we investigate the circumstances surrounding these incidents and are working alongside Counter Terrorism Policing to establish the facts - as we would normally do in these types of circumstances.

"We do have a man in custody who has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Currently, we do not believe there is anyone else involved in this incident."

Ms Meynell said police believe all the incidents are linked.

What have witnesses said?

One witness told Sky News she was on her way to work and was near Theatre Royal in the city centre when she saw the vehicle hit pedestrians.

She said she saw a male and female, both of whom remained conscious. It was the male who took the full force of the impact with the van, she added.

On the stabbing of the students, a witness told the BBC he heard "awful, blood-curdling screams" from his window on Ilkeston Road.

"I saw him stab the lad first and then the woman. It was repeated stabbing - four or five times."

What reaction has there been?

The University of Nottingham said in a statement: "We are shocked and devastated by the news and our thoughts are with those affected, their families and friends."

Hundreds of students turned out at a vigil at St Peter's Church on Tuesday night, with flowers left and candles lit for the victims, and council leaders said another vigil is planned.

The prime minister, home secretary and leader of the Opposition have all expressed condolences for the victims.
