Oxfam has opened its first ever "superstore" in Oxford - where the charity began more than 75 years ago.

The store is 12 times the size of the average Oxfam shop at 18,500 sq ft.

It will sell both Oxfam's donated items and a "Sourced By Oxfam" range of brand new ethically sourced gifts and homeware, the charity said.

On opening day, items for sale included a £250 Swarovski necklace, leather Gucci shoes for £19.99 and a Michael Kors bag for £24.99, according to the Daily Mail.

Also for sale was a black and white Victoria Beckham top for £14.99.

As well as raising money, the superstore doubles as a community hub where people can work, volunteer, donate and shop, the charity added.

It also has a cafe, housed in an Oxfam water tank.

Danny Sriskandarajah, chief executive of Oxfam GB, said: "Oxfam's first ever superstore is an exciting new venture for us.

"The huge treasure trove of items on offer make it a destination shopping experience but it is so much more than a shop," he added.

The superstore will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, but will accept donations seven days a week.

Oxfam provides aid to people hit by the world's worst conflicts and natural disasters.

The charity lost thousands of donors last year following allegations of sexual misconduct against some of its workers in Haiti.

In June, the Charity Commission published the findings of an 18-month investigation which found Oxfam had a "culture of tolerating poor behaviour" and failed to report child abuse claims against some of its staff in Haiti.
