An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody, West Midlands Police said.
Police believe more than one person was involved in the attack and detectives are reviewing CCTV.
A post-mortem is due to take place on Tuesday.
Detective Inspector Warren Hines, from the force's homicide team, said: "A man has tragically lost his life after being assaulted in his own home.
"We understand a mobile phone, bank cards and jewellery were taken but whatever their worth - there can be no price on that of a life.
"We believe those involved were known to the victim and I would urge anyone with information to get in touch as soon as possible."
