Philip Braat: Glasgow councillor and former lord provost charged with stalking offences

A Scottish Labour councillor and former lord provost of Glasgow has been charged in connection with stalking offences.
It is understood Philip Braat, 48, has also been suspended from his party pending the outcome of an investigation.
Braat has represented the Anderston/City/Yorkhill ward since 2007.
He served as deputy lord provost from 2017 and was appointed lord provost in 2020 until 2022 following the 2019 resignation of Eva Bolander amid criticism of her expenses claims.
Braat, former convener of the Strathclyde Police Authority (SPA), represented Scotland's biggest city during the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.
According to his register of interests, he is also a member of the Law Society of Scotland, an honorary captain in the Royal Navy Reserves, and a member of the Glasgow Tree Lovers' Society.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 48-year-old man was arrested and charged on Wednesday 23 October in connection with stalking offences.
"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal and he is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date."

A Labour spokesperson said the party "takes all complaints seriously".
They added: "They are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures, and any appropriate action is taken."
