US police have arrested a suspected serial killer in connection with a number of shootings that terrorised Phoenix and left several people dead or injured.
Dubbed the Serial Street Shooter, 23-year-old Aaron Saucedo was arrested on suspicion of nine murders, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams said.
But he is alleged to have been involved in a total of 12 shootings.
Most of the attacks took place between 2015 and July of 2016 in a predominantly Latino neighbourhood of the Arizona city.
He stalked victims after dark, picking people who were either outside their homes or sitting in cars, police said.
Saucedo was first arrested last month in connection with the 2015 shooting of a man, 61-year-old Raul Romero, who had a relationship with his mother.
As authorities investigated Saucedo more closely, they connected him to the serial killing case.
All the other killings were random, police said, and Saucedo was not believed to know his other victims, which included a 12-year-old girl.
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton congratulated police and other law enforcement officials who hunted down the suspect.
"They had a clear mission: bring this killer to justice and get it right."
