The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have paid tribute to Prince Philip with a short statement on the website of their Archewell organisation.

"In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021," the message reads.

"Thank you for your service... you will be greatly missed."

Philip's childhood, finding love & a life of service

The Duke of Edinburgh's death comes just a month after Prince Harry and Meghan's revelations about their time as working royals were revealed in an explosive TV interview.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey, the couple accused the Royal Family of failing to support Duchess of Sussex when she experienced suicidal thoughts.

They also said one unidentified member of the family had expressed concerns about the skin colour of son Archie, although later clarified that it was not the Queen or Prince Philip.

The two-hour interview was aired while Philip was in hospital after surgery on his heart.

A friend of the Sussexes later said that it would not have been broadcast if Philip had died ahead of the planned transmission date.

If the couple do attend the Duke's funeral, it will be the first time they have come face-to-face with Prince William and Prince Charles since then.

Funeral arrangements for Philip, who died on Friday morning at the age of 99, have yet to be confirmed, but it is likely grandson Harry will be among the small number of mourners.

It is not known at this stage whether the Duchess of Sussex, who is pregnant with her second child - a daughter - will accompany him.

Under current rules, people travelling into England from abroad are required to self-isolate from arrival and for the first full 10 days after they arrive.

Harry would be entitled to leave his place of self-isolation on compassionate grounds to attend the funeral.

He could also be released from quarantine if he gets a negative test on day five under the Test to Release scheme.

But given his status as a member of the royal family travelling to support the Queen, Prince Harry might be considered exempt from travel restrictions anyway.

Archewell, which Harry and Meghan used to post their statement on Friday, is a non-profit organisation created by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to "uplift and unite communities - local and global, online and offline - one act of compassion at a time".
