Why you can trust Sky News

Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith has spoiled the show's finale by accidentally tweeting the name of the winner.

The 77-year-old presenter has expressed regret over her social media mistake, saying she is "in too much of state to talk about it".

"I f up," she said.

Meanwhile, Twitter users have been ruthless, criticising Leith for revealing the winner before tonight's anticipated finale.

The tweet, later removed, came after Leith announced she would be returning to the Channel 4 show next year, along with judges Paul Hollywood, Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig.

"No one told me judging a gbbo final would be so emotional," the tweet said.

"I wanted them all to win. Bravo," she said, followed by the winner's first name.

Sky News has decided not to spoil the thrill of the unknown, but give the more adventurous a chance to peek at the deleted tweet.

Since the tweet was published, users have been criticising Leith for what one user called "the biggest Bake Off fail since Enwezor used shop-bought fondant", referring to a former contestant.

Glamour journalist Jo Elvin tweeted: "Last year Lindsay Frankel got so cross with me when I nearly spoiled the GBBO 2017 final for her. Don't read Prue Leith's Twitter, Lins!".

This isn't the first time a Bake Off judge has spoiled the finale.

In 2015, Mary Berry accidentally revealed the winner during a radio interview with Chris Evans, when the presenter asked her to name the contestants who had already left.
