As the jury at the inquest into the death of Raoul Moat returns a verdict of suicide, Sky News looks back at how events unfolded in July 2010.

:: Thursday July 1

Moat is released from Durham prison after serving two months for assaulting a child.

:: Friday July 2

He is caught on CCTV at a B&Q store in Newcastle. Staff at Durham Prison call Northumbria Police to warn them that Moat's former partner Sam Stobbart could be at risk.

:: Saturday July 3

Her new boyfriend Chris Brown is shot dead outside.

In the early hours, PC David Rathband is on the lookout for Moat in a police car parked on a roundabout above the A1 at Denton in the West of Newcastle.

Moat shoots PC Rathband twice through the window of his police car, minutes after dialling 999 to warn he is hunting for officers.

:: Monday July 5

Police urge Moat to give himself up and reveal he had written them a 40-page letter.  

:: Tuesday July 6

The Lexus is found on an industrial estate in Rothbury in Northumberland and the whole village is locked down.

Two of Moat's friends - Karl Ness and Quram Awan - but Moat has vanished.

:: Wednesday July 7

Police draft in a fleet of armoured cars from Northern Ireland.

As the police helicopter sweeps the area, an associate of Moat is escorted by armed police to try to help track him down.

:: Thursday July 8

As the manhunt enters its fifth day, police put armed officers outside schools and try to reassure worried residents at public meetings in Rothbury.

:: Friday July 9

In the evening, the net closes in. Just after 7pm a member of the public spots Moat on the riverside.

When armed officers approach Moat, he tells them to shoot him and puts his shotgun to his head.

:: Saturday July 10

Negotiations continue for six hours until, at 1.12am, the stand-off ends with gunfire and shouting.

He is taken by ambulance to hospital and pronounced dead shortly after 2am.

The three week hearing heard that the shotgun tasers fired by police had no effect on him.
