The search for a British diplomat is being scaled back by police about a month after he went missing in Hampshire.

Richard Morris disappeared after he went jogging in his home village of Bentley, near Farnham, on the morning of 6 May.

The 52-year-old man was seen by a member of the public at around 10.50am that day running in Isington Road, Alton.

Officers have searched more than nine square kilometres (3.4 square miles) of land and water in Alice Holt Forest and the areas of Alton and Binstead.

They have also viewed CCTV footage and have carried out house-to-house inquiries.

Police said they had not found any evidence in their investigation that pointed to foul play.

The father-of-three was a regular participant in the weekly Alice Holt run on Saturdays, a 5km route around the forest along tracks, trails and cycle paths.

During the inquiry, police asked for drivers to provide dashcam footage from the day he disappeared and also asked for runners to come forward so they could be excluded from the investigation.

Runners were previously asked to check his profile on the running app in the hunt for clues to his movements when he disappeared.

Chief Inspector Alex Reading said: "It has now been 28 days since Richard went missing, and we continue to be very concerned for his welfare.

"I would however like to reassure the community that there is no evidence of foul play.

"I want to reassure you that although the search phase is being scaled back, our investigation into Richard's disappearance is ongoing and any new lines of inquiry will be thoroughly investigated.

"We are continuing to keep Richard's family informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers."
