It may be more than 5,000 miles away from Windsor, but in Meghan's hometown of Los Angeles there was plenty of royal wedding magic.
At the Cat and Fiddle pub in Hollywood, they contemplated a very modern union.
Lloyd Pursall, an LA resident originally from Wales, said of Harry: "He's the prince of my generation.
"He's done some wild things, some great things, he's fallen in love, he's relatable."
Jasmine Chula, born and raised in LA, said: "As a woman of colour, to see another woman of colour in such a high position, it really means a lot, it's genuinely inspiring."
An Anglophile and Harry fan called Jennifer told me that it was about time the Royal Family started looking and sounding like the rest of the world.
She said: "Meghan's advocacy work for women is a great, great thing.
"She is what we aspire to be. I could not be happier for her and Harry"
They weren't just celebrating at the Cat and Fiddle.
People all over this country disregarded the time difference to gather at viewing parties, many with the sense they were watching a fairytale fit for the big screen.
At New York's swanky plaza hotel, guests dressed in their finery, including a baby wearing a fascinator.
There were "ooos" and "aaahs" and gasps when Meghan stepped out of the carriage and revealed her stunning dress.
And at Meghan's old school they basked in the achievements of a bright, compassionate student.
Perhaps the only bittersweet aspect of the event was the absence of Meghan's father, Thomas Markle, due to heart surgery and a scandal over some staged paparazzi photos.
He told the TMZ entertainment website: "My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy. I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and all happiness."
But as dawn broke and the guests went home - the defining sentiment here was pride and joy that an American is the newest member of the Royal Family.
