Russia detains 'hacker group' after bank accounts hit

Russian hackers are accused of targeting the US election, but experts say most of their crimes are financial.

Nine people have been detained in Russia accused of stealing about one billion rubles (拢13.5m) from bank accounts since 2013.

A nationwide manhunt was launched for the "hacker group", believed to have 50 members.

A total of 27 people are now being investigated on suspicion of belonging to the group and 19 of them are under arrest in pre-trial jail.

Security sources told Russian news agencies that the latest arrests are connected to a case against hacking collective Lurk.

Lurk is reportedly suspected of stealing a total of three billion rubles from various organisations.

According to ABC News, the ministry said the hackers also managed to penetrate Russia's "critical infrastructure", including military plants. No more details were given.
